Guanyin or Guan Yin is the most commonly used Chinese translation of the bodhisattva known as AvalokiteÅ›vara. Guanyin is the Buddhist bodhisattva associated with compassion. In the East Asian world, Guanyin is the equivalent term for Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. Guanyin also refers to the bodhisattva as adopted by other Eastern religions. The Chinese name Guanyin is short for Guanshiyin, which means “[The One Who] Perceives the Sounds of the World, indicating her compassionate ability to listen for pleas of help so she can come to the aid of the needy. To celebrate the renunciation of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara (Guan Yin), Singapore Buddhist Mission will hold the Guan Yin Bodhisattva Renunciation Day Prayer on 20 October 2024 (Sunday) at 10:30 A.M. Devotees who are interested may come and join us.
